Choosing a masterclass
When choosing a masterclass, select one that is designed for your child’s school year group. Your child is likely to benefit most by being in a group with others of similar age, educational standard and social maturity.
- Complete the online application form and pay by credit card.
- Online applications are preferred as they help reduce the administrative costs.
- Or download the application form and post it back to us, enclosing a cheque.
- We will confirm the child’s place and send further details nearer the class date.
If the online system shows that the class is full, please download the application form and either email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or post it with your cheque to: Tomorrow’s Achievers Educational Trust, Tomorrow's Achievers Educational Trust, 12 Hyde Park Place, London W2 2LH We will add your name to the waiting list and advise you as soon as a place becomes available.
NB: We will not cash your cheque until you accept our offer of a place.
There are generally 12 places on each masterclass. A few are larger with up to 20 places. We understand that children often like to come with someone they know from their school. However, one of the particular benefits of the courses is that pupils meet a wider group of other gifted children, so we limit the number from any school to two per year group. Masterclasses usually cover two year groups (e.g. 1&2, 3&4), so schools can enrol up to four children per masterclass.
Where schools are paying for children
Schools may complete online applications on behalf of their pupils and pay online or we will invoice.
Where schools are informing parents about masterclasses but not paying the fee
We are grateful to schools for giving parents of gifted children information about the masterclasses. Please advise them to book direct online. Early application is strongly recommended, as places are limited and many courses fill up very fast.
The average cost charged per masterclass is £38, with a few slightly more expensive. All our masterclasses are heavily subsidised and in reality cost nearly double.
Donations are even more valuable when gift-aided, as the government allows charities to reclaim 28p in the £ if the donor is a UK taxpayer. A gift-aid checkbox is included during the online payment process. There is also a gift-aid section included on the masterclass application form.
If your child has free school meals or you are in receipt of income support, you may be able to obtain a grant. Please complete the on-line application form and send us the following; evidence of your child’s ability, such as recommendation by the school, educational psychologist or other relevant professional source; evidence of family’s entitlement to free school meals or income support. Get more information about grant application.
All the staff on our masterclasses are well qualified and highly experienced teachers of gifted children who have undergone an Enhanced Disclosure by the Criminal Records Bureau. Tomorrow’s Achievers is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Masterclass leaders provide a stimulating, fun day for children presenting the topic in a lively and engaging manner. Most children comment on the fun they have, particularly with the practical experiments.
The classes generally have 12-20 children attending, with additional staff in the larger classes.
It is not possible for parents to join their child in the classes.
Some parents ask for a report on how their child performed in the masterclass. We do not provide reports as a normal rule, except on the very rare occasions when a child does not appear to have been benefiting or has been disruptive and a nuisance to the class. Most parents find, however, that they get plenty of feedback on the day’s events. We give every child a questionnaire at the end of the course, to complete and return to us, with focussed questions as to what they enjoyed (or didn’t enjoy) and why. The form also contains a section for parents’ comments. See what children say and what parents say.
Why are children enrolled according to national curriculum year group?
All the masterclasses provide a challenging experience for children who are exceptionally able intellectually. For best experience, masterclasses also need to be balanced in terms of the children’s peer group, motor skills and social maturity. While these vary to some degree between children of similar age, experts agree that children generally enjoy a masterclass more and derive greatest benefit when all are close to the same curriculum year group.
